Max Weber hat, abgesehen von einer schmalbändigen Dissertation und Habilitation, keine Bücher geschrieben. Der Seminarkurs behandelt daher diverse Aufsätze. Ziel ist es, Max Webers soziologisches Verständnis der okzidentalen Moderne und ihrer geschichtlichen Wurzeln zu erschließen und aus ihren spezifischen methodologischen Grundlagen heraus zu verstehen. Alle behandelten Texte befinden sich in folgendem Band: Max Weber, Schriften 1894-1922, ausgewählt von Dirk Kaesler (stuttgart 2005). Darin befinden sich auch eine Einleitung, eine Zeittafel zur Biografie Max Webers, ein Schriftenverzeichnis und ein Verzeichnis ausgewählter Sekundärliteratur.
Die Veranstaltung kann auch als Lektürekurse besucht und angerechnet werden.
