Die Untersuchung von Migration und Integration ist seit jeher ein zentraler soziologischer Untersuchungsgegenstand, der sowohl wissenschaftlich als auch gesellschaftlich und politisch kontrovers diskutiert wird.
Das Seminar bietet eine Einführung in die soziologischen Grundlagen der Integrationsforschung. Im ersten Teil des Seminars werden klassische und neueren Theorien zur Integration, (empirische) Bedingungen und Formen der Integration, sowie Aspekte ethnischer Ungleichheit besprochen. Der zweite Teil des Seminars konzentriert sich auf empirische Arbeiten zur Integration von Zuwanderern in den Bereichen Arbeitsmarkt, Bildung und Sprache. Im dritten Teil wird Deutschland schließlich mit anderen Einwanderungsländern verglichen.Ziel des Seminars ist es, einen Überblick über klassische und neuere Theorien der Integration zu geben, anhand konkreter empirischer Studien den Stand der Integration von Zuwanderern in Deutschland einzuschätzen, der Frage nachzugehen, welche Bedingungen und Faktoren zu einer erfolgreichen Integration beitragen und gesellschaftliche und politische Diskurse kritisch einzuordnen.
