In dem Seminar wird der systematische Zusammenhang von Theorien der Kindheit und der generationalen Ordnung erarbeitet. In der Erziehungswissenschaft wird Kindheit v.a. als Entwicklungs- und Erziehungskindheit und damit als Lebensphase fokussiert. In den Social Studies of Childhood wird Kindheit darüber hinaus auch als Lebenslage und Lebensweise gefasst und empirisch untersucht. Das sozialwissenschaftliche Konzept der generationalen Ordnung verweist darauf, dass Kindheit stets eine relationale Kategorie darstellt und es gilt, Prozesse der gesellschaftlichen Institutionalisierung der Differenz zwischen Kindern und Erwachsenen - z.B. im Recht, im Bildungssystem, in der Familie - zu erforschen und zu analysieren.
Das Seminar reflektiert die erziehungswissenschaftlichen Grundbegriffe „Kindheit“ und „Generation“, führt in unterschiedliche aktuelle Theorien im Spektrum von Erziehungswissenschaft, Soziologie und Social Studies of Childhood ein und fragt nach deren Differenzen und Zusammenhängen. Dabei wird in grundlagentheoretischer Perspektive die Vielschichtigkeit der Konzepte Kindheit, Generation und generationale Ordnung erarbeitet und diskutiert.
