What does it mean to teach a language as a means of actual communication? Which methods can support students in actually exchanging information and opinions in a meaningful way in the foreign language? In this course we will learn about, try out and reflect on different approaches to communicative language teaching: ranging from activities to encourage students to speak in the classroom, using drama-pedagogical elements, to task-based learning and possibilities to teach beyond the classroom by including secondary sites of learning or turning students of English into ethnographic researchers.
