Within this seminar we study the role of family background and a child’s skills on the intergenerational reproduction of social inequalities. We study the underlying mechanisms by looking at different parental resources (education, social status, and income) and different aspects of a child’s cognitive and non-cognitive skills, as well as a child’s motivation. We address the questions of whether a child’s skills can compensate for disadvantaged backgrounds, and vice versa.
The seminar will be held in English.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
