Alle sprechen von kulturellem und kollektivem Gedächtnis – doch was ist damit gemeint? Die deutschsprachige Gedächtnisforschung wurde stark von den Theorienangeboten Jan und Aleida Assmanns geprägt. Das Blockseminar will ihre omnipräsente Formel des kollektiven und kulturellen Gedächtnisses kritisch hinterfragen und sowohl Chancen als auch Grenzen dieses prominenten Konzeptes diskutieren. Dabei sollen andere, auch französische und italienische Gedächtnistheorien vorgestellt und an konkreten Fallbeispielen überprüft werden. Gefragt wird sowohl nach Trägern, Medien und Hierarchien von Erinnerungskonstruktionen als auch nach den Bedingungen und Mechanismen des Memory-Booms selbst, der seit den 1980er Jahren nicht abreißt.

Das Seminar ist als Blockveranstaltung konzipiert. Nach einer Vorbesprechung im April finden drei Doppelsitzungen im Juni und Juli statt.
