Flauberts Éducation sentimentale und die Poetik des Romans
Flauberts ironischer Paris-, Revolutions- und Bildungsroman L’Éducation sentimentale (1869 – nicht zu verwechseln mit dem gleichnamigen empfindsamen Jugendwerk), ist ein Klassiker, der seine Leser quält. Bei der ersten Lesergeneration stieß er auf Unverständnis, wurde jedoch seit Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts als Inbegriff modernen Erzählens gefeiert – und zwar von Romanciers und Kritikern, die heute ihrerseits als Klassiker gelten wie z. B. Proust, Kafka, Lukács und Benjamin. Ausgehend von unserer Lektüre des Romans werden wir uns die Frage stellen, warum die genannten Autoren, aus ihren unterschiedlichen Perspektiven, dieses Buch als Vermächtnis des 19. Jahrhunderts an das ihre betrachteten. Das Seminar richtet sich an Studierende mit Interesse an französischer Literatur und Literaturtheorie.
Zur Vorbereitung: Lektüre des Romans.
Zur Anschaffung: je nach Sprachkenntnissen: Gustave Flaubert, L’Éducation sentimentale, Gallimard-Folio 2005 oder Gustave Flaubert, Lehrjahre des Gefühls, übers. v. Maria Dessauer, Insel 2001.
