300265 Organizational Theory (S) (SoSe 2011)

This course will explore the richness of organizational theory from classical to contemporary approaches. We begin by exploring the early genre-defining works of Barnard, Simon and March, then turn to classical manifestations of structural and functionalist approaches visible in the works of Gouldner, Thompson, and Luhmann, and we will also discuss Coleman and Weick. The second part of the course will be dedicated to more recent advances in the theory of organizations emerging from ethnomethodology and workplace studies, Bourdieuan sociology, and from actor-network theory. Students are encouraged to bring in their own substantive research interests and empirical puzzles.
