Würde man in einem Seminar fragen: "Welche Bedeutung haben eure Eltern für euch?", würde man zahlreiche unterschiedliche Antworten erhalten, jedoch auch gemeinsame Vorstellungen von der Beziehung zwischen Eltern und Kindern. Neben der Bedeutung von Liebe und Zuneigung fallen Eltern zahlreiche Aufgaben zu, die weit über die eigentliche Erziehung der Kinder hinausgehen. So sollen Eltern Bildungspartnerschaften mit der Schule bilden, wie es die Forschung zur Entwicklung der Ganztagschulen gezeigt haben (Stenger 2012). Aufgaben von Eltern werden jedoch auch vor ihrem sozialen Hintergrund unterschiedlich diskutiert (Betz/Bischoff 2014). Gleichzeitig expandiert ein Markt an Elternratgebern, Seminaren für Eltern, gelungene Erziehungspartnerschaften zwischen Eltern und Kindern oder auch eine erfolgreiche Elternarbeit.
In diesem Seminar soll es nun darum gehen, Diskurse über Eltern aufzuzeigen. Anschließend soll das Verhältnis zwischen Schule/pädagogsichen Einrichtungen und Eltern in den Blick genommen werden. Und zuletzt werden Elternratgeber und Seminare für Eltern auf den Prüfstein gestellt.
