Dieses Seminar behandelt das Konzept der Erwerbsarbeit. Neben den grundlegenden Charakteristika von Arbeit, nämlich der Sicherstellung der materiellen Existenz sowie der Aufbau einer personalen Identität, dient Arbeit auch als Integrationsmedium in die Gesellschaft. Während zu Beginn der 1980er Jahren von einer (möglichen) Krise der Arbeitsgesellschaft gesprochen wurde, so lässt sich heute keineswegs eine Abschaffung der Arbeit sondern vielmehr ein Wandel der Arbeit feststellen. Dieser Wandel reicht u.a. von neuen Arbeitsformen, über die Informatisierung der Arbeit bis hin zu einer Transnationalisierung der Arbeitsgesellschaft. Die kritische Reflexion der theoretischen Konzepte zur Formation und dem Wandel der Arbeitsgesellschaft (z. B. durch die Zunahme wissensbasierter Tätigkeiten, die Durchsetzung neuer Technologien etc.) stehen ebenso im Mittelpunkt der Lehrveranstaltung wie die Diskussion von empirischen Ergebnissen.

Eine benotete Einzelleistung kann in Form eines Referats mit schriftlicher Ausarbeitung (oder in Ausnahmefällen durch eine Hausarbeit) erbracht werden.
