Im Grundseminar II sollen grundlegende Techniken kunst- und bildhistorischer Arbeitsweisen vermittelt werden. Wichtige Methoden des Faches von der Ikonologie bis zur Rezeptionsästhetik, Konzepte von gender-Studien bis Hybridität sollen an Fallstudien besprochen werden. Dabei geht es auch darum, aktuelle Positionen des Faches aufzugreifen und kritisch zu diskutieren.
Die Lektüren methodisch relevanter Texte und die dadurch geschärfte Analyse von Objekten sollen schließlich in einer Hausarbeit zusammengeführt werden.

Das Grundseminar II wird durch ein Tutorium begleitet, in dem die Teilnehmenden in kleinen Lerngruppen in praktischen Übungen die Inhalte des Grundkurses vertiefen. Ein besonderes Augenmerk gilt dabei exemplarischen Anwendungen der im Seminar diskutierten Ansätze, Methoden und Theorien. Teile des Tutoriums sind als Übung vor Originalen konzipiert. Das Tutorium ist eng auf das Grundseminar bezogen und daher ein verpflichtender Teil dieser Veranstaltung.
