Das Deutsche zeichnet sich durch eine vergleichsweise freie Wortstellung, genauer Satzgliedabfolge, aus. Satzglieder wie Subjekt, Objekt und Adverbial sind nicht auf eine bestimmte topologische Position festgelegt, sondern können im Vorfeld, im Mittelfeld und teilweise auch im Nachfeld stehen. Auch im Mittelfeld, das mehr als ein Satzglied umfassen kann, ist die Abfolge variabel.
Im Seminar werden wir zunächst grundlegende zu Wortstellungsregularitäten im Deutschen erörtern (Verbstellung, topologische Struktur) und uns dann der im Gegenwartsdeutschen beobachtbaren Variation zuwenden. Wir werden ausgesuchte Variationsphänomene diskutieren und dabei nach variationssteuernden Faktoren suchen. Dazu werden wir auch diachrone und psycholinguistische Perspektiven einbeziehen.
