Contents, comment

This course will introduce students to the history of British literature from the Middle Ages until today. We will survey the major authors and influential works from the various epochs of literary history, and we will trace the developments of drama, poetry and prose fiction. A special emphasis will be placed on the relationship between changes in literature and changes in the contexts of social, political, ideological and economic history.

Student information
- Graded examination Student information

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.

PLEASE NOTE: The course will apply a new format in the sense of "flipped classroom" (or "inverted classroom"). The point of this format is a strong emphasis on preparation: I will audiovisually record the individual sessions of the lecture and make them available online or via the Lernraum. Students are then required to view the lectures in preparation for the session in which we meet and come equipped with questions. The session as such is then devoted to answering questions, going deeper into some issues that students find most interersting, looking at additional material, and preparing for both the exercise sheets and the oral PM4 module exam.

I will explain about the format and the requirements in detail in the first session, but you can also google the terms in advance to get an idea of how the system works.
