230311 Um 1900: Das Drama zwischen Naturalismus und Expressionismus (S) (WiSe 2018/2019)

Das Seminar thematisiert den Epochenumbruch „um 1900“ (Naturalismus, Fin-de-siècle, Expressionismus) am Beispiel dramatischer Texte. Es wird zunächst um Grundbegriffe der Dramenanalyse gehen (Bauformen des Dramas, Konfiguration, Charakterisierung, Handlungsbegriff, Zeitstruktur). Im Mittelpunkt stehen aber vergleichende und kontrastierende Lektüren ausgewählter Dramen aus der Zeit von 1889 bis 1919: Gerhart Hauptmanns Sozialdrama „Vor Sonnenaufgang“ (1889), Arno Holz‘ und Johannes Schlafs „Familie Selicke“ (1890), Hugo von Hofmannsthals „Der Abenteurer und die Sängerin“ (1899), Georg Kaisers „Die Bürger von Calais“ (1914) und Ernst Tollers „Die Wandlung“ (1919) sollen im Seminar behandelt werden.
Ziel der textnahen Lektüren ist es, die Vielfältigkeit des Epochenschemas um 1900 am Beispiel der Brüche und Kontinuitäten der dramatischen Spielformen und vor dem Hintergrund ihrer historisch-politisch-kulturellen Krisen und Kontexte zu erarbeiten.
