Die Griechen waren überzeugt, dass wesentliche Errungenschaften ihrer Kultur auf ihrer ungewöhnlichen Mobilität beruhten. Das Seminar untersucht exemplarisch diejenigen Gruppen, denen die entgrenzte Wanderung zwischen den Poleis und Ethnien zum Lebensprinzip wurde, sowie ihren Einfluss auf die politische und kulturelle Entwicklung ihrer Zeit, nämlich: (1) Fernhändler (2.) Söldner und Piraten (3.), Charismatiker und Glaubensverkünder (4.) Magier und Ärzte sowie (5.) Philosophen.
