Después de un sucinto panorama histórico de los debates acerca de conceptos como la identidad cultural, el mestizaje, la hibridación y lo criollo desde la época de la independencia y la formación de los estados nacionales hasta la primera mitad del siglo XX, el seminario enfocará las discusiones teóricas acerca de las culturas híbridas, la heterogeneidad, la transculturación y la condición postcolonial de América Latina. A base de estudios teóricos y ejemplos concretos se estudiarán temas como identidades de consumo (Néstor García Canclini), el papel de los medios en las mediaciones sociales (Martín Barbero), la inclusión de los pueblos indígenas (Jeffrey Himpele) y la cultura como recurso en las industrias y políticas culturales posfordistas (George Yúdice).
Para la participación activa se podrán obtener 3 créditos, para un trabajo escrito 3 créditos adicionales.
