Das Seminar analysiert das Werk Stanley Kubricks vor dem Hintergrund seiner filmspezifischen Poetik. Es soll untersucht werden, was Kubricks Filme stilistisch kennzeichnet und wie seine Filmpoetik die Inhalte der Romanvorlagen zu seinen Filmen medial transformiert. Der Fokus der Filmanalyse liegt also auf der audiovisuellen Gestaltung, welche die Inhalte der Geschichten sich zu eigen macht und zu ''eigen''artigen Rezeptionserlebnissen führt. Somit hat das Seminar auch die Vermittlung grundlegender filmanalytischer Kenntnisse zum Inhalt.
Analysiert werden die sechs letzten Filme Kubricks: 2001, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket und Eyes Wide Shut.Zu Semesterbeginn wird ein Reader bereitgestellt. Die erste Sitzung findet am 14.10. statt.

Ein unbenoteter Leistungsnachweis erfordert die regelmäßige Teilnahme bei höchstens zwei verpassten Sitzungen und das Verfassen eines kurzen filmanalytischen Essays (Abgabe bis spätestens 12.2.2010).
Benotete Einzelleistungen können in Form von Hausarbeiten (20-25 Seiten) oder mündlichen Prüfungen erbracht werden, unbenotete Einzelleistungen für Medienwissenschaftler in Form verkürzter Hausarbeiten (10-12 Seiten). Die Hausarbeiten müssen bis zum Semesterende abgegeben werden.
