Departing from theoretical reflections on border/frontera (Saldivar, Anzaldua, Lenz etc.) in cultural studies discourses, we will explore representations of borders in contemporary films such as L.A. Crash, Traffic, Babel, and Frozen River. Key questions guiding this seminar will be the following: How are borders aesthetically represented? What types of borders do we encounter in contemporary film productions? What do the representations of borders in selected films tells us about processes of globalization and processes of communication in times of global networking.
