This seminar focuses on the study of the road genre in film in the U.S.A to reflect on how history and culture connect to movement, stasis, identity, otherness, progress, and nostalgia. In looking at this genre in depth, we will investigate the formations of the journey narrative as well as the aesthetic of the road film, taking into account the different socio-political contexts along the decades. Screenings include “Bonnie and Clyde”, “Easy Rider”, “Thelma and Louise”, “The Straight Story”, and “Little Miss Sunshine”, among others.
