This course will examine autobiographical accounts of drug experiences as well as the aesthetic realisation of such experiences, the influence of drugs on artistic creativity and aesthetic perception, and the importance of drugs as a stimulant for the imagination and poetic vision. It will look at paradisiacal dreams but also at infernal nightmares and at how artists over the centuries translated these into literary texts, musical works and film.
Texts for the course will partly be provided via a Semesterapparat, the Lernraum or otherwise. But some of the works you will have to purchase yourselves (see: Literaturangaben).
