Der sog. Althochdeutsche Tatian ist eine Zusammenstellung der Evangelien, die auf Syrer Tatian zurückgeht. Der ursprünglich aus dem 2.Jhdt. stammende Text wurde im 9.Jhdt ins Althochdeutsche übersetzt und liegt uns in einer zweisprachigen Lateinisch-Althochdeutschen Version vor. Unter sprachgeschichtlicher Perspektive ist der Text ein wichtiges Dokument einerseits aufgrund seine Umfangs und andererseits zeigt er, wie das Lateinische als Grundlage für den Sprachausbau des Deutschen verwendet wurde. Neben einer einführenden Lektüre in das Althochdeutsche stehen in dem Seminar sprachgeschichtliche Fragen im Mittelpunkt.
