230038 Clinical & Forensic Linguistics (S) (SoSe 2018)

Contents, comment

Just image you heard of someone who “lost” their language. This person can neither understand language nor talk anymore. What has actually happened to this person’s brain? Or imagine this: you heard a friend tell you that they got a letter in the mail in which the author of this piece of writing was trying to blackmail them. How could you help your friend find out more about the extortionist?
In this class on clinical and forensic linguistics we will look, on the one hand, at the areas of clinical linguistics, which deals with language and speech impairment, and, on the other hand, at forensic linguistics, which has its focus on the language of the law, text authorship, and forensic phonetics among other things. At the end of the semester you will have a better understanding of both areas of linguistics as well as maybe answer the questions above.
