In dem Seminar wird ein Überblick über die verschiedenen Schriftsysteme der Welt - der Vergangenheit und Gegenwart - gegeben. Dabei geht es insbesondere um die Frage, in welcher Weise die Schriftsysteme einzelne Sprachen repräsentieren. Das Ergebnis der Analyse wird eine Typologie von Schriftsystemen sein, vergleichbar einer Typologie, die man für die Sprachen der Welt entwickeln kann. In engem Zusammenhang damit steht die Frage, wie Schriftsysteme sich historisch entwicklen, wobei natürlich das deutsche Schriftsystem im Mittelpunkt stehen wird. Es wird dabei um die Frage gehen, ob und inwieweit die Schriftgeschichte als ein Prozess der Grammatikalisierung beschrieben werden kann. Dabei wird dann auch ein Anschluss an linguistische Grammatikalisierungstheorien gesucht.
