Das Kolloquium dient vornehmlich der Besprechung von Vorarbeiten (Outline) zu MA-Abschlussarbeiten. Neben der Diskussion der einzelnen Projekte werden die häufigsten Probleme und Herausforderungen behandelt, die im Rahmen der Erstellung von MA-Abschlussarbeiten auftreten. So sollen Fragen zur Themenwahl und -eingrenzung, zur Konzeptualisierung, zur Gliederung und argumentativen Systematik, zur Theorie und Methode sowie zum Verhältnis und zur Verbindung von Theorie und Empirie etc. bearbeitet werden.
Der Erfolg der Veranstaltung beruht ganz wesentlich auf die Mitarbeit in 'peer groups' (3-4 Teilnehmer*innen pro Gruppe), die in der zweiten Sitzung eingeteilt werden und im Laufe der Veranstaltung maßgelblich zum Lernerfolg des Kolloquiums beitragen. Hierzu ist die regelmäßige und aufmerksame Lektüre der von den Studierenden verfassten Texte (Outline oder Kapitelentwürfe) notwendig. Sie sind von jeder Teilnehmer*in verpflichtend zu lesen.
