Die Tatsache, daß Gesprächsteilnehmer nicht nur verbalsprachlich kommunizieren, ist Linguisten, Kommunikationsanalytikern und nicht zuletzt den Gesprächsteilnehmern selbst sehr wohl bewußt. Trotzdem führte die redebegleitende Gestikulation gegenüber der Verbalsprache in den einschlägigen Analysen lange Zeit eher ein Schattendasein. Dafür gibt es wissenschaftsgeschichtliche, methodische und sachliche Gründe. Im Seminar werden rhetorische, psychologische, interaktionistische, "holistische" u.a. Konzepte zur Beschreibung redebegleitender Gestikulation an Beispielen vorgestellt. Am Ende soll im Idealfall ein konsistentes Modell zur Beschreibung authentischer Kommunikationssituationen stehen.
Jeder Teilnehmer/jede Teilnehmerin des Seminars wird dazu eine kurze Sequenz aufzeichnen und transkribieren.
Die Bereitschaft zur Lektüre englischer Texte wird vorausgesetzt.
