Die Harmonielehre beschäftigt sich mit der Bildung mehrstimmiger Akkorde und mit dem Verhältnis solcher Tongefüge zueinander. Ob man sich für die Terminologie der Funktionstheorie (Tonika, Subdominante, Dominante u.s.w) oder der Stufentheorie (I., IV., V. Stufe) entscheidet: Die Harmonielehre hilft beim Begreifen, wie tonale Musik gemacht ist, und sie gibt uns die Chance, Lieder und Stücke selbst zu begleiten.
Im Seminar werden Werke des 17.-20. Jahrhunderts sowie Rock-/Popsongs im Hinblick auf ihre Harmonik analysiert; parallel dazu entwickeln wir Methoden, wie auf der Grundlage der Harmonielehre aus gegebenen Melodien einfache mehrstimmige Sätze werden können.
