Funktionentheorie ist die Analysis der komplexen Zahlen. Es handelt sich jedoch nicht einfach um die Fortsetzung der Analysis Grundvorlesungen. Im Gegensatz zu den reellen Zahlen sind die komplexen Zahlen nicht linear geordnet; dafür gibt es eine 2-dimensionale geometrische Struktur. Folglich führt die übliche Definition der "Differenzierbarkeit" in ganz neue Richtungen. Die Funktionentheorie ist in vielen Bereichen der reinen Mathematik unentbehrlich. Auch in der Physik wird die Sprache der Funktionentheorie benutzt, um die Quantenmechanik zu beschreiben.
Ich bin aufgefordert worden, im Rahmen der Internationalisierung des Studiums, diese Vorlesung auf Englisch zu halten. Dies ist für mich natürlich eine sehr angenehme Idee. Dafür werde ich ? wie immer ? langsam vorangehen und versuchen, falls sprachliche Unklarheiten vorkommen, auch die Sache auf Deutsch zu beschreiben.
