Partielle Differentialgleichungen treten sowohl in der mathematischen Theorie aber auch insbesondere in den Anwendungsgebieten wie Natur--, Ingenieur-- und Wirtschaftswissenschaften auf. Beispiele sind die Konstruktion von Flaechen vorgeschriebener Kruemmung, die Dynamik von Wasserwellen, moderne Bildverarbeitung oder Optionspreismodelle.
In der Vorlesung werden die wesentlichen analytischen Techniken fuer lineare partielle Differentialgleichungen vom elliptischen, parabolischen und hyperbolischen Typ vorgestellt. Im zweiten -- numerisch orientierten Teil -- werden Differenzenverfahren und schwerpunktmaesig die Finite--Elemente--Methode vorgestellt (FEM).
Wichtig ist, dass Analysis, Numerik und Implementierung als eine Einheit gesehen werden.
Die Vorlesung wird im WS 2005/06 mit einer Vorlesung zu nichtlinearen Differentialgleichungen fortgesetzt.
