Vor dem Horizont einiger theoretischer Grundlagen der allgemeinen Geschichtswissenschaft steckt sich das Seminar das Ziel, die Geschichte des Sportunterrichts in Deutschland in Abhängigkeit von sozialen, politischen und ökonomischen, aber auch kulturellen Entwicklungsprozessen zu rekonstruieren. Vermehrtes Augenmerk wird hierbei nicht allein der Entwicklung der sportpädagogischen Theoriebildung geschenkt. Vielmehr geht es immer auch um Prozesse der Etablierung und Veränderung des Sportunterrichts im Rahmen eines sich entwickelnden deutschen Erziehungssystems, die bis auf die Ebene der konkreten Unterrichtsgestaltung verfolgt werden sollen.
