Durch eine schriftliche Arbeit und einen mündlichen Vortrag über ein selbstgewähltes Thema aus dem Arbeits- oder Sozialrecht können wahlweise ein Seminarschein (i.S. von § 3 Abs. 1 Nr. 2 der Promotionsordnung), ein Wahlfachschein in den Wahlfächern Arbeitsrecht (§ 3 Abs. 3 Nr. 5 JAG 1993) oder Sozialrecht (§ 3 Abs. 3 Nr. 7 JAG 1993) oder - bei Wahl eines geeigneten Themas - ein Grundlagenschein (§ 8 Abs. 1 Nr. 5 JAG 1993) erworben werden. Studierende nach der StudPrO 2003 haben die Möglichkeit, im Rahmen dieses Seminars ein Thema für ihre häusliche Arbeit im Schwerpunktbereich 7 (Arbeit und sozialer Schutz) zu wählen.
