Die Vorlesung führt in die Epoche des Sturm und Drang ein. Nach einer Diskussion des Epochenbegriffs und einem Überblick über die Forschungsliteratur werden geistes- und sozialgeschichtliche Kontexte der literarischen Strömung des Sturm und Drang skizziert. Es folgen eingehende Analysen und Interpretationen von Texten aus Lyrik (u.a. Bürger, Stolberg, Goethe), Dramatik (u.a. Klinger, Leisewitz, Wagner, Goethe, Schiller) und Epik (u.a. Maler Müller, Goethe, Heinse). Auch die Bereiche der zeitgenössischen Literaturkritik (u.a. Herder, Gerstenberg, Merck) und der Bildenden Künste (Füßli) sollen angesprochen werden.

Zur Vorbereitung empfiehlt sich die Lektüre der folgenden Primärtexte:

  • Ders.: Leiden des jungen Werthers
  • Friedrich Schiller: Die Räuber

  • Heinrich Leopold Wagner, Die Kindmörderin
  • Friedrich Theodor Klinger, Zwillinge
  • Johann Anton Leisewitz, Julius von Tarent
