This course in an exploration of the English vocabulary. Some basic semantic concepts and lexicographical terminology will be introduced as navigational tools in the discovery of how words mean as well as what, who uses them, when, where and why. We will also consider both bilingual and monolingual dictionaries and see how they can be useful to the advanced language learner. No one who takes this course need ever be ?at a loss for words? again. There will be weekly exercises and a final examination.
Students will also be required to keep a vocabulary journal where they will record new words learned by individual reading throughout the semester.
