Die Vorlesung beschäftigt sich mit der Isolierung und Aufreinigung (downstream-processing) biotechnologischer Produkte. Verfahrenstechnische Grundlagen der Bioverfahrenstechnik zum Fördern und Mischen von Fluiden werden ebenso behandelt wie Methoden zur Fest-Flüssig-Separation, Verfahren zum Zellaufschluß und ausgewählte Aufarbeitungsverfahren und ihre Anwendung in der Biotechnologie. Spezielle Anforderungen an die Qualität des Produktes (technische Produkte, pharmazeutische Produkte) werden hierbei ebenso berücksichtigt, wie unterschiedliche Analysemethoden zur Kontrolle der einzelnen Prozesschritte.
Die Veranstaltung ist als Spezialisierung für Studierende im Haupstudium des Studiengangs Molekulare Biotechnologie vorgesehen. Die Vorlesung ist aufbauend auf der Vorlesung Biotechnologie II (Grundoperationen) auch für Studierende der Fächer Naturwissenschaftliche Informatik (Schwerpunkt Biotechnologie), Biochemie, Biologie und Chemie zu empfehlen.
