Die Bedeutung sozialer Netzwerke bzw. von sozialem Kapital hat in den letzten beiden Jahrzehnten viel Beachtung in verschiedenen Teilgebieten der Soziologie, der Psychologie, der Pädagogik und der Politikwissenschaft erfahren.
Im ersten Teil des Seminars soll interdisziplinär der entsprechende Stand der Forschung auf Basis einschlägiger herausragender Publikationen aufgearbeitet werden. Dieser bezieht sich sowohl auf die Voraussetzungen sozialer Netzwerke als auch auf deren Wirkung.
Im zweiten Teil des Seminars sollen verschiedene empirische Herangehensweisen (z.B. Namensgeneratoren egozentrierter Netzwerke) diskutiert und in Gruppenarbeit versucht werden, ein Erhebungsinstrument der empirischen Netzwerkanalyse für exemplarische Fragestellungen zu entwickeln.
