Anhand ausgewählter Themenkreise gibt die Vorlesung eine Darstellung der Bio- und Gentechnik aus Sicht der industriellen Anwendung. Beispiele für kommerziell wichtige Produkte - wie z.B. Arzneimittel, neue Therapiemethoden, Diagnostika und Lebensmittel, deren Verwendung, Herstellung und wirtschaftliche Bedeutung werden diskutiert. Darüber hinaus gibt die Vorlesung einen Einblick in den Arbeitsalltag des industriellen Forschungs- und Technologiemanagements - einschließlich der Prinzipien der Forschungsfinanzierung sowie des Projekt- und Organisationsmanagements. Die Diskussion von Bio- und Gentechnik als Innovationsfelder führt zu einer Darstellung der Standortstrategien international tätiger Pharmafirmen hinsichtlich der Errichtung von Forschungs- und Produktionsanlagen.
