Ist Tugend (im Sinne von Tüchtigkeit, Vortrefflichkeit) etwas, das man lehren kann? Diese Grundfrage verbindet die beiden platonischen Dialoge Protagoras und Menon. Auf der Suche nach einer Antwort behandelt Platon jedoch eine ganze Bandbreite philosophischer Fragen: Gibt es viele Tugenden oder sind Weisheit, Tapferkeit, Besonnenheit und Gerechtigkeit nur verschiedene Namen für eine einzige Tugend? Ist Tugend (eine Art von) Wissen? Was ist das Verhältnis zwischen Wissen und bloßer Meinung? Wie gelangen wir zu Wissen? (Hier entwickelt Platon im Menon seine einflussreiche Lehre von der Erkenntnis als Wiedererinnerung.) Kann man etwas suchen, wovon man nicht weiß, was es ist?
Ziel des Seminars ist sowohl ein Kennenlernen der Philosophie Platons als auch das Erlernen methodischer Vorgehensweisen bei der Erschließung eines philosophischen Primärtextes. Griechischkenntnisse sind hochwillkommen, aber keine Voraussetzung.
Für eine Leistungsbescheinigung im BA-Studiengang werden mehrere kleine Beiträge, die zum Semesterbeginn erläutert werden, für einen Leistungsnachweis in allen anderen Studiengängen wird eine schriftliche Hausarbeit erwartet.
