Die anhaltende Entwicklung und sich ausbreitende Nutzung von Informations- und Kommunikations-Technologien durch Organisationen und Unternehmen ist ein auffälliger Tatbestand, der fragen läßt, welcher Organisationswandel und welche neuen Arbeitsformen dadurch angestoßen und ermöglicht werden. Diese neuen Medien werden als nichttriviale Universalmaschinen beschrieben (v. Foerster), die individuell programmiert werden können und deshalb in ihren organisatorischen Nutzungsformen und Folgeproblemen schwer abschätzbar sind. Sie verlocken dann zum Entwurf übergeneralisierter Konzepte wie Wissensgesellschaft, Wissensmanagement, Wissensarbeit etc.. Das Projekt wird diese Themen in ausgewählten Problemfeldern (z.B. Einführung von Telearbeit/Kooperation, Organisations-Netzwerke, Leitstände und Steuerungszentralen) empirisch untersuchen, theoretisch analysieren und in der Form von Fallstudien zusammenfassen. Das Projekt ist auf nur zwei Semester ausgelegt, d. h., es ist auf intensive Projektarbeit und gute organisationssoziologische Vorkenntnisse (z. B. Kieser 1999) abgestellt (cave canem!).
