Im Orientierungsmodul des BA Sozialwissenschaften werden die Studierenden in grundlegende Fragestellungen, Wissensgebiete, Erkenntnisweisen und theoretische Ansätze der Sozialwissenschaften eingeführt. Dabei wird die institutionelle Einbettung und der kulturelle Kontext sozialer und wirtschaftlicher Prozesse sowie die Bedeutung der Globalisierung für die Entwicklung von Politik, Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft in der Bundesrepublik vermittelt.
Im Orientierungsmodul werden den Studierenden auch die Arbeitsmethoden und Arbeitsmittel des sozialwissenschaftlichen Studiums vorgestellt und mit ihnen gemeinsam angewandt; in Übung und Tutorium sollen sie unterschiedliche Formen selbstständigen wissenschaftlichen Arbeitens und Präsentierens (auch in der Gruppe) erproben und einüben. Damit sollen sie zur fachlichen und organisatorisch-zeitlichen Selbstorganisation des Studiums befähigt werden.
