Die evolutionäre Psychologie (e.P.) ist ein theoretisches Paradigma, mit dessen Hilfe allgemeinpsychologische Fragestellungen untersucht und auch generiertwerden. Die Grundannahme dieses Ansatzes ist, dass psychische Mechanismen (wie z.B. die Emotion Angst) eine stammesgeschichtliche/genetische Wurzel haben und nur so erklärbar und verstehbar sind.
Das Seminar soll einen Überblick über die Geschichte, die Ziele, die Forschungsmethoden und die Forschungsgebiete der e.P. liefern, der eine kritische Bewertung dieses Ansatzes und seiner Thesen ermöglicht. Zu diesem Zweck sollen Originalarbeiten der Vertreter des Paradigmas sowie auch von dessen Gegnern besprochen werden.

Das Seminar richtet sich an Studierende des ersten (oder zweiten Studienabschnitts, die bereits über Grundkenntnisse der allgemeinen Psychologie verfügen.
