In der als Blockseminar konzipierten Veranstaltung wird die Forschungsgeschichte zur SS von der Nachkriegszeit bis zur Gegenwart anhand ausgewählter Beispiele nachgezeichnet. Vor dem Hintergrund historiografischer Entwicklungen werden in einem zweiten Schwerpunkt Probleme der Vermittelbarkeit der Geschichte der SS in einer Gedenkstätteneinrichtung erörtert. An zwei Terminen tagt das Seminar daher im Kreismuseum Wewelsburg.
Die Wewelsburg bei Paderborn sollte nach den Plänen Himmlers zu einem kultischen Zentrum der SS ausgebaut werden. Die aufwendigen Arbeiten wurden von Häftlingen des unweit der Burg eingerichteten Konzentrationslagers Niederhagen durchgeführt.
