230629 English in the Information Society: Text Linguistics, Internet and Mobile Phones (S) (SoSe 2009)

Contents, comment

In recent years there have been many studies of the forms of language used in the Information Society, and questions asked such as: What are the principles which determine the codes used for SMS text messages, what are the influences of these media on the language? A number of areas within this domain will be investigated in the class. Work in the class will be team project oriented, and will culminate in the practical production and publishing of a booklet, flyer and CD on the subject. A bibliography will be provided later - but actually you can Google for relevant information yourselves ...

Qualifications: credit points (curriculum-dependent: attendance, active participation through web portfolio preparation) + grade (presentation with written version).
