Die Vorlesung wird sich mit den Cartesischen Meditationen beschäftigen. Im einzelnen wird es um die folgenden Fragen gehen: Was ist der philosophische, theologische und naturwissenschaftliche Hintergrund, der Descartes dazu bewogen hat, sich mit fundamentalen erkenntnistheoretischen (Was können wir mit Sicherheit wissen?) und metaphysischen Fragen (Welche Arten von Substanzen gibt es?) zu beschäftigen? Wie ist die Cartesische Argumentation in den Meditationen am besten zu rekonstruieren? (Was genau ist der Cartesische Zweifel? Wie wird er überwun-den? Welche Rolle spielen dabei die Gottesbeweise? Wie argumentiert Descartes für den Substanzendualismus? Warum können wir genau das mit Sicherheit wissen, was durch eine mathematische Physik beschrieben wird?) Schließlich wird der Frage nachgegangen, welche philosophiegeschichtlichen Folgen der Substanzendualismus und andere zentrale Thesen der Meditationen nach sich gezogen haben
