Die Übung ist obligatorischer Bestandteil der grundlegenden Einführungsveranstaltung in die Politikwissenschaft. In der Übung erarbeiten die Studierenden eigenständig in Gruppen anhand eines Problems politikwissenschaftliche Fragestellungen und Lösungsansätze ("Problem-based-learning"-Ansatz). Zur Vertiefung und Begleitung der Übung und Vorlesung dienen zwei Tutorien.
