In this seminar, we will focus on the interconnections of literature, media and intercultural learning in the EFL classroom. To this end, we will in the first part determine what ‘intercultural learning’ in the classroom is and how the use of literary texts (including film) can help to promote it. Criteria for the suitability of texts will be established, diverse ways of approaching them will be investigated. In the second part, we will apply this knowledge to a range of texts from different genres. In particular, we will be dealing with poems as well as excerpts from novels and films. In the selection of texts, the requirements of ‘Zentralabitur’ as well as the participants’ ideas will be considered as far as possible. Time permitting, the development of one or several complete teaching units will round off the course.
Participants are invited to give a presentation. They will also need a HRZ user name to access StudIP.
