Typische Genome enthalten tausende von Genen. Die Auswertung dieser Datenflut ist nur mit bioinformatischen Methoden möglich. Im Rahmen dieses Blocks sollen von den Rohdaten vom Sequenzierautomaten bis zum fertig annotierten Genom alle Arbeitsschritte (zumindest exemplarisch) an einem Beispieldatensatz geübt werden. Dies beinhaltet die folgenden Teilschritte:
- UNIX Grundkenntnisse
- Datenmanagement (mit UNIX-Kommandozeile, das Werkzeug "make")
- Zusammenbau der Einzelsequenzen ("Assembly", mit Staden)
- Bestimmung von potentiellen Genen ("gene prediction")
- Vergleich mit Sequenzdatenbanken ("blast", "pfam")
- Erstellung einer Web-Oberfläche für die gesamten Daten
Die Teilnehmer erhalten die Möglichkeit, alle Arbeitsschritte selber am Rechner durchzuführen und werden dabei unterstützt. (Rechner = UNIX-Workstation) Teilnehmerkreis: Hauptstudium, Vorbereitung auf die Diplomarbeit. Scheinkriterien: regelmässige Teilnahme, Vortrag, Protokoll oder Präsentation der eigenen im Rahmen des Blocks entwickelten Lösung. [Lf: n; 50: n; Fs: n]
