In den letzten Jahrzehnten ist die Zahl der Ein-Elternhaushalte und Stieffamilien kontinuierlich angestiegen. Im Rahmen des Seminars soll der Frage nachgegangen werden, worauf diese globalen Entwicklungen zurückzuführen sind und welche Konsequenzen es für Eltern und insbesondere für die Entwicklung Heranwachsender hat, wenn sie "jenseits der Normalfamilie" leben und aufwachsen. Dazu werden Erkenntnisse der Scheidungs- und Stieffamilienforschung diskutiert, aber auch Studien zur Situation von Paaren in nicht ehelichen Lebensgemeinschaften sowie Adoptiv- und Pflegefamilien.
