In der Übung werden die Themen der Vorlesung anhand von klassischen Texten vertieft, die für die Entwicklung des soziologischen Denkens von besonderer, oft nachhaltiger Bedeutung gewesen sind.
Dazu zählen u. a. Auguste Comte, Herbert Spencer, Karl Marx, Emile Durkheim, George H. Mead, Georg Simmel, Max Weber, Karl Mannheim und Norbert Elisas. Neben dem theoretischen Gehalt soll die Zeitgebundenheit soziologischen Denkens deutlich werden. Für aktive Teilnahme, welche die Beantwortung von fünf Fragen zu den Texten einschließt, können drei, für eine schriftliche Hausarbeit oder eine mündliche Prüfung fünf Leistungspunkte erworben werden.
