This class deals with current research findings regarding the mental health and psychological well-being of unaccompanied refugee minors (URM) including risk and protection factors, diagnostics, prevelances and treatment. Moreover aspects of culturally and linguistically-sensitive care concepts will be discussed.
Students are supposed to develop understanding for the specific needs of UMRs, increase their intercultural awareness and gain insight into a currently relevant research topic.
We will have two or three class sessions in which young adults will be our guests and discuss their experiences on how to start over in a new culture with us. These talks will be in german but can be translated into english if necessary.
Master students (Psychology) can attend the class. Basic skills in cinical psychology are expected. Classes will be held in English to increase awareness for working with clients who are non-native german speakers . No advanced English skills are required and school English is sufficient.
