Die Veranstaltung will in Grundannahmen und Modelle der Ökonomie in der Weise einführen, dass die Denkweisen der (neo)klassischen und der Institutionenökonomie für Studierende verständlich werden, die Geschichte oder Soziologie (bzw. Sozialwissenschaften) studieren.
U.a. werden folgende Themen behandelt: Wirtschaftskreislauf, Konjunkturzyklus, Konjunkturpolitik (Keynesianismus), Geld, Bankensystem, Außenwirtschaft, Produktionsregime, Arbeitsmärkte.
