Das Seminar findet digital, live zur genannten Zeit & z.T. digital, im Selbststudium (online synchron/asynchron) statt.

The aim will be to introduce the field of inter- and transnational comparative educational research and to gain an overview of selected school systems and their functions, also in the context of making school and teaching more inclusive. In this seminar, we will mainly deal with selected European countries: e.g. Germany, Iceland, Sweden and Spain.

The aim of this course is to familiarise students with different approaches to comparison, to work out their possibilities and functions, but also the problems and blind spots of these approaches. Eventually, they should be able to make their own small comparisons and reflect on the roles, functions and consequences for individuals of selected school systems from a comparative perspective. For this purpose, we will use literature and other materials in primarily English/German language as well as the database of the ‘European Agency for Special Needs and Inclusive Education’ and video material from several European countries of the ‘TdiverS’ project (partly in original language with English subtitles).

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.

In this seminar, we communicate bilingually in English and German: Submissions (Studienleistungen/Prüfungsleistungen) can be made in German as well as English. One of the aims of this course is to enable the students to train their English and expand their existing knowledge along the global topic of the course. The lecturer will be happy to provide the students with language support. In any case, we can always use German, should there be the need for it.
